SUNLIGHT ON PRUSIK PEAK
It was a cold October afternoon when I hiked from our campsite to Gnome Tarn, a tiny lake that reflects iconic Prusik Peak, at least when the wind calms down. I laid down on the ground and waited, and waited. Sometimes photography is like that. Occasionally the clouds parted and the sun illuminated the peak, but the clouds were moving fast and the photographer had to be equally fast.
For this photograph I chose to print in black-and-white, in what is perhaps my closest effort at achieving the classic Ansel Adams style.
This peak is well-known to climbers, with many challenging routes up its faces. When climbers look at this photograph, I see their eyes light up as they point out the routes they've taken up this mountain to their companions.
