PIERCING EYES

We rarely get a chance to see predators up close, but this juvenile Red-tailed Hawk, perched on a signpost in Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, allowed us to approach within about 30 feet. This allowed me to get an excellent portrait, showing the fierce eyes and hooked beak. Such magnificence in our fellow creatures!
