HOUSE ON FIRE

The ancestral Pueblo peoples left houses and granaries in canyons throughout the Four Corners region, abandoning them some 800 years ago, perhaps because of drought. This remote canyon in Utah was accessible by a beautiful hike among cactus flowers and calling birds, and I was struck by the beauty of the place where these ancient people lived and farmed.
