BURLEY TOBACCO CURING
It was in the early 1990s, when tobacco was still a prominent part of Indiana agriculture. I happened upon several barns in beautiful Brown County, Indiana, that were curing tobacco by hanging the drying plants in an open barn for several months to let the leaves dry in the gentle breezes through the barn, all the while gaining flavor. Autumn in October was a wonderful time in Indiana, and the feeling of the autumn harvest and a rustic barn and a brilliant Sugar Maple seemed to wrap up the essence of rural America at the time.
