I spend winters in a snowy midwestern state of the USA, where I am endlessly enchanted by a spare landscape of snow, barns, and intricate trees. This is also a place where an Amish community thrives, so it is almost like time travel when I venture out to observe lives being lived as they were 150 years ago. Other rural places in the American Heartland are equally engaging, and I love living in such a vast and diverse country.
